“Art in the Public Realm”

The British Council, in partnership with UAE-based artist led creative company The Domino cordially invites you to a series of talks titled“Art in the Public Realm” on the 7th February 2013 at the Jumeirah Creek Side Hotel – Dubai. The forum will host acclaimed speakers from the art and culture industry in the UK and UAE including representatives from the world renowned Royal Academy of Arts in London and moderated by Colin G. Reaney, Associate Professor of Sculpture at the American University in Dubai.

PROGRAMME

Panel 1: Art in the Public Domain – Introduction

 

Time: 3:30 – 5:00 pm

Details: What social impact and value does art have in a public space? Why have major cities around the world incorporate art into their public spaces, policies, and creative identities?

Panel 2: Challenges - Public Art and Regulations

 

Time: 5:30-7:00pm

Details: What challenges and responsibilities do artists and governments face when placing art in the public realm? What are the negative connotations to avoid? Why has public art ended up in commercial galleries? Where do we go from here?
